The Cleveland Browns invited North Carolina's Mitchell Trubisky, one of the NFL draft's elite quarterbacks, to attend a workout designated for local prospects on Friday, and Trubisky is expected to attend, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
While NFL coaches and personnel executives typically have to travel to the campus or hometown of a top draft prospect to conduct a private workout, clubs are also allowed to conduct a workout at their facilities for prospects that are from the area, or went to college in the area. As Trubisky is from Mentor, Ohio, a short distance from Cleveland, he's eligible for the Browns' local workout. Trubisky's expected attendance was first reported by the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.
The Browns hold the Nos. 1 and 12 overall picks of the draft, and are in serious need of help at the quarterback position. One of the club's cornerstone talents, left tackle Joe Thomas, endorsed Trubisky as the draft's top QB last week.
Each NFL team is allowed 30 pre-draft visits from prospects, so the Browns could work out and have a visit with Trubisky all in one day. Trubisky confirmed at his pro day last week that the Brownsare among his scheduled workouts, but didn't specify whether he was referring to the club's local workout, or a separate one.
