Dallas Cowboys defensive end Tyrone Crawford was carted off the practice field Tuesday after suffering an ankle injury. Per the team's official website, the early diagnosis is a lateral right ankle sprain, not a bone fracture.

The Cowboys can breathe a sigh of relief following the initial diagnosis.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports the lateral ankle sprain could keep Crawford out until the end of the preseason. Had Crawford fractured his ankle, it would be another huge setback for an already depleted Dallas defense -- Damontre Moore, David Irving and Randy Gregory will miss time this season due to off-the-field issues.
