UCF wide receiver Breshad Perriman continued his traveling-man ways Friday, this time visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Perriman (6-foot-2, 212 pounds) has been a busy man since running a sub-4.3 40-yard dash at his pro day last month, though his visit to Pittsburgh is somewhat surprising because wide receiver would not seem to be a position of need for the Steelers.
Perriman is considered a likely first-round pick, and the Steelers seemingly would be more interested in drafting a cornerback, safety or edge rusher than a wide receiver in the first round. Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown led the NFL in receptions last season, and Martavis Bryant played well in the second half of his rookie season. The Steelers also have Markus Wheaton and the recently signed Darrius Heyward-Bey at the position.
Granted, Perriman has a nice upside, but drafting a receiver in the first round instead of trying to fix holes in the secondary and in the defensive front seven doesn't make sense.
The Steelers also brought in Boston College quarterback Tyler Murphy, considered a much better runner than passer, and South Alabama tight end Wes Saxton on Friday. Saxton -- who played high school football with Jameis Winston -- is a good athlete who likely would intrigue the Steelers as a third-day selection.
