Uneven seasons haven't quieted Giants, Jets playoff talk

Another day, another Giants player telling the world his 6-6 outfit is playoff-bound.

"I definitely see us winning these last four and getting into the playoffs," wide receiver Victor Cruz told the New York Daily News on Friday.

Does this sound familiar? It might, because it's the same proclamationGiants safety Antrel Rolle made earlier this week, when he told WFAN-AM in New York: "Without a doubt. We will be in that postseason."

Meanwhile, Rex Ryan -- more adept than, say, Rich Kotite at grabbing New York's back pages -- issued his own strong words about the playoff destiny of his 7-5 Jets.

“Hey, we’re not in the playoffs yet," Ryan told the New York Daily News. "But if we get in the playoffs, they’re gonna be talking about four teams. I mean, if we get in, how can you not talk about us? ... If we get in, look out.”

From his first hours in New York, Ryan has made it a goal to give the long-suffering Jets an identity separate from -- and stronger than -- the Giants.

"I knew the perception was that the Jets were almost the little brother to the Giants,” he said. “Well, no way in hell was I going to let that remain the same."

One major sticking point for these two fast-talking teams? They face each other on Christmas Eve at MetLife, the home they share. It remains a date on the horizon for now -- perhaps meaningless by then -- but it could go a long way to making truth-tellers, or liars, out of these natural rivals.
