Vikings QB Jackson returns to practice, experiences no issues with knee

MANKATO, Minn. -- Tarvaris Jackson is practicing again with the Minnesota Vikings.

The quarterback said after Wednesday morning's workout that his sprained left knee felt fine and he experienced no problems moving around during drills. He participated in most of the activities, except for a full-team, two-minute game simulation at the end.

"This is what I was pushing for," Jackson said. "They never gave me a date (to return). I wanted to get out here as soon as possible."

Jackson was hurt Saturday, essentially putting him behind Sage Rosenfels in the competition for the starting quarterback job, which was left wide open when Brett Favre decided to remain retired.

Jackson missed time last August because of a knee injury, but he said it's not as serious this time. He expressed confidence that he'll play in the first exhibition game Aug. 14 at Indianapolis.

"I felt good," Jackson said. "Just trying to get back in the groove of it. I'm just doing what I'm told and not trying to rush it too fast."

Jackson primarily worked with the second team Wednesday as he was eased back into action.

"I'm sure we'll continue to get back into the swing of things," Vikings coach Brad Childress said.
