The Minnesota Vikings signed 2008 draft picks S Tyrell Johnson, QB John David Booty and C John Sullivan. The team now has all of its draft picks under contract heading into training camp, which begins Friday in Mankato, Minn.
Second-round pick Johnson is the highest-drafted safety for the Vikings since taking Orlando Thomas with the 42nd overall pick in the 1995 Draft. Named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 at Arkansas State, Johnson earned All-Sun Belt Conference First Team honors in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
fifth-round choice Booty finished his career ranked fouth all-time at Southern California with 55 career touchdown passes, fifth with 518 completions and fifth with 6,125 yards passing. He also threw at least 1 touchdown pass in 22 of his 23 starts. A 2006 All-Pac-10 First Team selection, Booty also earned Rose Bowl Offensive MVP honors in 2007, guided USC to a pair of Rose Bowl wins in his career as a starter and holds the Rose Bowl record for career touchdown passes.
Sixth-rounder Sullivan helped anchor Notre Dame’s offensive line his last three years in South Bend, starting in 31 consecutive games before a knee injury forced him to sit out the final two games of his senior campaign.
