EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings have signed linebacker David Herron to try to add some depth to a unit that has suffered numerous injuries in the preseason.
The 27-year-old Herron played for the Vikings in 2007 and 2008, mostly on special teams, but also getting three starts in the middle when E.J. Henderson was injured.
Herron bounced around with the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and the New York Jets over the last few years. His return was necessary because Jasper Brinkley, Heath Farwell and Kenny Onatolu have all dealt with nagging injuries that have limited them in the preseason.
The Vikings released another injured linebacker -- Mark Washington -- to make room for Herron.
