Watch: LSU CB retreats 21 yards, still returns punt for TD

A timeless axiom for return specialists is that giving up ground is a bad idea, because too often, reversing field or running in the wrong direction to avoid a tackle results in lost yardage. Forgive Tre'Davious White, however, if he doesn't always go by the book.

LSU coach Les Miles certainly will.

The Tigers cornerback fielded a punt at his own 40-yard line against Jacksonville State on Saturday night, and retreated 21 yards to his own 19 to avoid defenders before finally turning upfield for a touchdown.

White, you might recall, had said a couple weeks ago that he hoped to score on a punt return against Wisconsin in Week 1 so that he could perform a Lambeau Leap, a notion to which Miles was unamused. Perhaps, then, it was fortunate for White that his first punt return for a touchdown of the season came a week later in the Tigers' 34-13 win over the Gamecocks.

White, a senior, is one of the most talented cornerbacks in the country. If he's fortunate enough to return punts in the NFL one day, his special teams coach might be wise to remind him that there are no Jacksonville States playing on Sundays.
