It's pro-day season, and College Football 24/7 is your one-stop shop for information and analysis on the on-campus workouts that allow draft prospects to make an up-close impression on NFL club personnel. Here's a look at the key takeaways from Wednesday's action.
Oklahoma: Sooners RB in spotlight
Big draw: RB Joe Mixon
Don't forget: WR Dede Westbrook
Attendance: Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman. All 32 clubs were represented.
The skinny: After being barred from the NFL Scouting Combine, this was a monumentally important day for Mixon. He responded with a 4.50 40-yard dash, a number that would have put him squarely between Dalvin Cook (4.49) and Leonard Fournette (4.51) at the combine. He also had a 35-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 9 feet, 10 inches. "I thought all of his results lined up with my expectations," said NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein. "... This workout validates the athleticism we've seen on tape." More important than his numbers, Mixon got a chance to speak with a lot of NFL clubs about a 2014 incident in which he punched a female student and was suspended for the season. He met with four -- the Lions, Saints, Bengals and Browns -- on Tuesday, and reportedly was set to speak with 20 more. ... WR Dede Westbrook ran a 4.34 and a 4.38 40-yard dash, per the school.
Alabama: Top Tide prospects stick to position drills
Big draw: LB Reuben Foster
Don't forget: DL Jonathan Allen
Attendance: Head coaches Todd Bowles of the New York Jets, Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks' Pete Carroll, as well as Pittsburgh Steelers GM Kevin Colbert. All 32 clubs were represented.
The skinny: Not much to see here. Alabama's top prospects didn't do much other than position drills bn Wednesday, although Ryan Anderson did try to improve on his 4.78 40-yard dash from the combine. LB Reuben Foster was at the center of attention, even though he didn't participate at all following shoulder surgery, due to his ouster from the combine. There was, however, some news on the NFL clubs first on the visit list for three top Alabama prospects.
Temple: Bengals assistant works with Reddick
Big draw: Haason Reddick.
Don't forget: Dion Dawkins.
Attendance: More than 40 scouts were reportedly on hand for the Owls' pro day, covering all 32 NFL clubs.
The skinny: Not surprisingly, the Owls' top draft prospect, Haason Reddick, passed on the 40-yard dash after clocking a 4.52 at the combine. However, he reportedly performed well in position drills under the direction of Bengals LB coach Jim Haslett. Reddick continued his rise up draft boards earlier this week at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Also in action on Wednesday: Central Oklahoma, Colorado, Colorado State, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Marshall, Southern Nazarene.
On deck for Thursday: Delaware, Delaware State, Idaho, Jacksonville State, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Penn, Samford, UTEP, Wyoming.
