The Falcons' Roddy White gave Matt Ryan a second chance for a Falcons' win, and that is the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week for games played Oct. 3-4, the NFL announced on Friday. The GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week is the best moment or play of the week that represents determination and perseverance.
Trailing, 14-13, Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw an interception with less than two minutes remaining in the game. But Atlanta received new life after WR Roddy White hustled to force 49ers CB Nate Clements to fumble during the return. The Falcons recovered and restarted the drive at their 7-yard line, allowing Ryan to lead Atlanta to a last-second field goal for its second straight dramatic win.
Roddy White was selected from among three moments by voters on NFL.com/gmc. The other two moments were Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson's breakout performance against Buffalo and Josh Scobee's career-long field goal for the Jaguars.
After the regular season, fans will have a chance to determine the GMC Never Say Never Moment Of The Year from among 17 weekly winners. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/gmc throughout the month of January.
Trailing, 14-13 at home to the winless 49ers, the Falcons' prospects looked bleak when Matt Ryan threw an interception with 1:31 to play. But Roddy White wouldn't let it end that way. He chased down the defender to force a fumble and turnover, then caught a 20-yard pass from Ryan to jump-start the team's drive for a winning field goal.
Tomlinson proves doubters wrong by breaking out vs. Buffalo
Tomlinson came to New York looking for a second chance after the Chargers let him go in free agency. Thought to be a veteran backup to Shonn Greene, L.T. gradually earned more and more touches. On Sunday, he looked like the L.T. of old, rushing for two touchdowns and his first 100-yard game since Week 4 of the 2008 season and helping the Jets beat Buffalo to move to 3-1.
Scobee's career-long FG gives Jags a stunning win over
Colts
Usually, when Peyton Manning leads a last-minute touchdown drive, the opposition fades and eventually falls. On Sunday, the Jaguars responded, with Josh Scobee capping a 36-yard drive in the game's final minute with a 59-yard field goal, the third-longest game-winning field goal with less than two minutes to play since 1983. Scobee's kick gave Jacksonville a 31-28 win, its first over the Colts in the last four matchups.
