Florida coach Will Muschamp can thank wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, more than anyone, for the Gators' triple-overtime escape of Kentucky Saturday in a 36-30 home win.
Robinson caught 15 passes for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns, tying a school record, to lead UF to a 28th consecutive win over the Wildcats in the series. But while most of those 28 wins have come with ease, this Kentucky team gave Florida fits and put itself in a position to pull an upset in tying the score 20-20 with a field goal to force overtime.
It also spared Muschamp, with whom Florida fans are already short on patience after last year's 4-8 season, an embarrassing home loss in UF's SEC opener.
Kentucky's best chance to win in overtime required a fourth-and-7 stop, but Robinson caught a fade pass in the corner of the end zone for a game-tying touchdown to keep UF's hopes alive. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore's performance might have established him as a much-needed go-to receiving threat at UF, which has struggled with its passing attack since Muschamp took the job three years ago.
Florida also got 156 rushing yards on 29 carries from running back Matt Jones, but the passing game took command as Jeff Driskel threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns, with most of it going to Robinson.
