Kisa Caruthers

Kisa Caruthers, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, is an accomplished licensed electrical engineer with over 26 years of experience in designing electrical building systems for both new and renovated projects across the United States and internationally. She currently works at Burns & McDonnell, a top ten national engineering firm, where she combines her technical expertise with a passion for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within the organization. Kisa holds a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering from Tennessee State University, an MBA from Webster University, and an academic certification in project management.

Beyond her engineering career, Kisa is deeply committed to community engagement and mentorship. She serves on the advisory board for the Minnesota State University Women in Leadership Program and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Black Women in Science and Engineering (BWISE), and the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE).

Kisa's passion for STEM, women, youth, and community service has earned her numerous accolades. In 2022, she was honored with the LIFTHERUP award for inspiring and uplifting women in Kansas City, as well as the Women of Inspiration International Mentorship Award from the Universal Women's Network. In 2023, she received the Ebony Rose Community Excellence and Education Award from the National Congress of Black Women (Kansas City chapter) and the Greg Graves Community Leadership Award from Burns & McDonnell. Kisa was also recognized as the 2024 Volunteer of the Year by United Way of Greater Kansas City and received the Black Achievers of Kansas City award from the Black Achievers Society of Greater Kansas City. Additionally, she has been honored with multiple declarations and awards from the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and accolades from Burns & McDonnell, including the Blue Quill and X-Factor honors.

As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Kisa leads community efforts to engage chapter members in volunteer activities that support the Black community. She is dedicated to youth initiatives that educate young women and men on community service, social justice, physical and mental health, and entrepreneurship. Kisa's dedication to mentoring and community service continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of the youth she serves in her various volunteer roles.
