Jowharah Sanders
Jowharah Sanders is a dedicated nonprofit executive with nearly two decades of experience supporting young people and families facing challenges related to bullying, gender identity, sexual orientation, and mental health. She is the founder of National Voices for Equality, Education, and Enlightenment (NVEEE), a nationally recognized organization focused on bullying and suicide prevention, as well as providing direct service, mentoring, and educational programs.
After surviving bullying and two suicide attempts, Sanders founded NVEEE with the goal of preventing bullying, suicide, and school violence. Since its inception, the organization has helped over 30,000 youth and families. NVEEE has earned recognition from Congress and has been featured on national media platforms such as NPR, "Secret Millionaire," and "NBC's Education Nation."
Sanders' commitment to youth advocacy has earned her numerous awards, including the 2019 SAVE Luminary Award, the 100 Outstanding Women Award from the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County (2018), and the 2016 Legends Award from Unity Coalition. She was named one of the "Top 100 LGBT Movers and Shakers" in 2015 and received several other honors for her leadership and impact in the LGBTQIA+ and broader community, such as the Ujima Leadership Award in 2013 and the Aqua Foundation for Women Community Award in 2014.
A passionate advocate for today's youth, Sanders empowers young people to confront difficult realities, find their voice, and engage in meaningful conversations about their lives. Her work has made a profound impact, helping thousands of youth and families navigate and overcome significant challenges across the country.
