Mia Jones
Mia Jones, a Jacksonville native and graduate of Florida A&M University, has dedicated her career to public service and health equity. She began her career in public office, serving as a City Councilwoman for Duval County and later as a member of the Florida House of Representatives. In these roles, Mia advocated for her community, working to address issues of racial and economic inequality.
In 2004, Mia became the Chief Executive Officer of Agape Family Health, an organization focused on providing health services to underserved communities in Jacksonville. One of her most significant contributions came in the aftermath of the racially motivated shooting in Jacksonville's New Town community, where Agape Family Health played a crucial role in providing health resources to the 11 survivors and their families. This work highlighted the organization's long-standing commitment to addressing health disparities in Jacksonville's most vulnerable communities.
Mia's leadership at Agape has been transformative, particularly in increasing access to healthcare for the uninsured in Northeast Florida. In recognition of her efforts, Mia was awarded the Sapphire Award in 2022 for her work in expanding healthcare services in the region. Under her guidance, Agape also launched Mama Thrive, a Multicultural Maternal Telehealth Program, which addresses the unique health needs of mothers in the community. Mia's work continues to leave a lasting impact on health equity in Jacksonville, empowering underserved populations with the resources and care they need to thrive.
