Johnny Dominguez
Johnny Dominguez, a first-generation college graduate, is deeply committed to advocating for equity in college access and success, particularly for underrepresented populations in Southern Nevada. A former employee of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), Johnny's passion for education stems from his personal experiences and his desire to help students navigate the challenges of post-secondary education.
Johnny's career began as an Admissions Counselor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he guided underrepresented students from his hometown of East Las Vegas. Through one-on-one counseling, financial aid workshops, and college tours, he provided critical support to students seeking higher education. His experience expanded as he worked as an Academic Advisor and Transition/Completion Specialist at Nevada State University, strengthening networks between community colleges and universities across Nevada and providing student support services.
In his next role as a College Counselor with the Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas, a "to-and-through" college access and success program, Johnny advanced to the position of College Counseling Manager, where he led the development of the College Access Program. He later became the first Chief Program Officer for Q3 Student Partners, a social impact venture aimed at creating affordable student housing with wrap-around support for first-generation students, helping them transition from college to career.
Johnny currently serves as an advisory board member for the UNLV Academic Success Center Community Advisory Board and as a board member for ThrivePoint Academy Nevada. His own journey included participation in UNLV's TRIO program in high school and as a Student Support Services (SSS) in college. He earned a B.A. in political science, an M.Ed. in Higher Education, and a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from UNLV.
In recognition of his impact, Johnny was named a Las Vegas Weekly "40 Under 40" honoree in 2022. He is also a graduate of the Vegas Chamber of Commerce Leadership Las Vegas, class of 2022 "Double Deuces," and a fellow for the inaugural Surge Academy Las Vegas. Johnny remains dedicated to expanding opportunities for students to succeed in higher education and beyond.
