Andre Walker

For more than 20 years, Andre Walker has dedicated his career to the development and success of student-athletes as a teacher, coach, mentor, and assistant principal. As the Executive Director of Athletics and UIL Activities for Houston Independent School District (HISD), Walker oversees 74 middle and high school programs, 1,900 coaches, and 20,000 student-athletes. A Houston native, Walker continues to have a profound impact on young athletes in his hometown, guiding them both on and off the field.

In 2023, when the Houston Texans launched their Girls Flag Football Program with the goal of increasing access for girls in Houston to participate in the sport, Walker was a key advocate for the program's expansion within HISD. Through funding from the Houston Texans Foundation, local schools are able to offer the program, providing essential uniforms, equipment, and curriculum. Thanks to Walker's leadership, the program is set to expand to all 25 HISD high schools by 2025, offering even more girls the opportunity to play football and benefit from mentorship.

Walker is widely recognized for his unwavering dedication to his students. He is an inspiring leader who believes in the transformative power of mentorship, both on and off the field. His advocacy for programs like the Girls Flag Football Program exemplifies his commitment to fostering positive change in HISD and the broader Houston community. Through his work, Walker continues to serve as a mentor and role model for countless students, encouraging their growth, leadership, and success.
