A.J. Green strains hamstring, won't need surgery

The Cincinnati Bengals received a modicum of positive news on Monday.

A.J. Green suffered a hamstring strain Sunday, but will not require surgery. He will probably be out a few weeks, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source.

Green was carted off early in Sunday's 16-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that Green is moving better than expected after the injury and hopes to have his star receiver back by the end of the year.

Will the Bengals be playing for anything by the time Green is ready to play?

At 3-6-1, Cincinnati sits 13th in the AFC but just 1.5 games behind the Ravens and Steelers in the division. The Bengals head to Baltimore in Week 12 followed by tilts versus Philadelphia, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

Counting Sunday's loss in which Green left on the second play of the game, Cincinnati is 1-3-1 without the superstar receiver since he entered the NFL in 2011.

With Giovani Bernard (ACL, out for season) and Green out, an already subdued Bengals offense will have to manufacture points behind Andy Dalton, Jeremy Hill and rookie receiver Tyler Boyd while grasping at dwindling playoff hopes.
