The enthusiasm surrounding Aaron Dobson's availability for training camp got another boost.
On Tuesday, we learned through Nick Underhill of MassLive.com that there was "optimism" that the New England Patriots' wide receiver would be ready to hit the field for the first time since foot surgery in March.
Dobson himself is now confirming said optimism.
"It's doing better, man," he told the Boston Herald. "It's getting better every day. Every week it's getting better, so we're just going to see where it's at by the time camp starts."
Even though he's missed all of the offseason reps, the 22-year-old said he isn't letting that hinder his mental progress.
"You've got to keep yourself focused on what your job is," he said. "I know I can't go out there and physically do it, but mentally you've got to be there. That's the biggest part is just being there mentally because it's easy for yourself to slip. So you've just got to stay on top of yourself and be responsible, really, and do your job."
If healthy, Dobson's progress could bring a consistent vertical dimension to the Patriots' offense, which it's lacked the last several seasons.
