Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not above criticism even though he is without question the best football player on the planet right now.
In a 24-10 win over the Rams, though, a narrative about a struggling offense was formed. Rodgers was at the center after throwing two interceptions against a very good Rams defense, one of which was a tipped ball and the other standing out as an absolutely phenomenal play by Trumaine Johnson.
"We've been struggling the last couple of weeks," he said, via the team's official site. "We've played three NFC West teams. The division is really known for its defense. We struggled. We have to adjust a little better. Obviously, I have to throw it better than I did today. I missed the throw to James (Jones) on the scramble. We turned the ball over too many times."
Rodgers' 82.8 passer rating -- which brought the season total down to 117.4, the second-best among all qualified starters in the NFL -- is still better than the season average rating posted by Peyton Manning or Matthew Stafford or Andrew Luck or Joe Flacco.
The Packers are also 5-0.
It is our default fantasy-centric setting to scoff at these numbers without considering Rodgers is without Davante Adams and Jordy Nelson. There is a major component of Green Bay's offense, especially on the outside hash, that cannot be replicated by the bodies they currently have in house.
Still, he is managing in the face of Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn and Nick Fairley and Michael Brockers.
"Aaron is human," Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said after the game. But what he forgot to say is that Rodgers is far less human than the rest of us, and that we can easily forget that sometimes.
