The last week has been about as fun as a poke in the eye for Green Bay Packers fans. Aaron Rodgers knows the feeling.
The Packers quarterback took a digit to the eyeball from New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins on Sunday while trying to throw for a touchdown near the goal line in the third quarter.
The injury was bad enough that Rodgers had to leave the game for a play. Backup quarterback Graham Harrell came in and fumbled his first NFL regular-season snap after an offensive lineman stepped on his feet. Harrell was trying to hand the ball off to Cedric Benson, but he tripped over one of his offensive lineman and lost the ball; Jenkins recovered it for the Saints at the 8-yard line.
To add insult to injury, Drew Brees connected on an 80-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Morgan four plays later, giving the Saints a 24-21 lead.
Rodgers returned to the game on the Packers' next drive, but he threw an interception to Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson at the New Orleans 34.
It's been that kind of week in Green Bay.
