One NFL team in need of an offensive coordinator could get very lucky.
Adam Gase, once thought of as a lock to be an NFL head coach next year, could end up designing offenses for at least one more season. With Jim Tomsulagrabbing the job in San Francisco and John Fox looking like a strong candidate in Chicago, Gase would have to hope that he could outshine Dan Quinn in Atlanta for a chance to get a head coaching gig or win the job in Denver, a proposition he discussed with John Elway on Wednesday night (to note: Denver and Chicago are the only vacancies left where Gase has interviewed).
Rapoport added that the Falcons are also in the mix, which would certainly decrease the attractiveness of jobs in St. Louis and Jacksonville given the presence of Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White.
The Jaguars parted ways with Jedd Fisch earlier this offseason and the Rams amicably parted with Brian Schottenheimer a few weeks later.
Both of these teams have young quarterbacks and young skill position stars that need molding and both could use some divine intervention like this. Blake Bortles struggled during his first season in Jacksonville but possesses a tremendous level of arm strength and mobility. Sam Bradford, if healthy, could still be the player many thought he would be coming out of college.
Gase might be the answer if he falls through the cracks this year and could actually end up benefitting from the change. Though his talent extends beyond Peyton Manning, he can prove that by elevating the play of a quarterback that no other coordinator could.
Imagine how strong that head coaching resume would be if St. Louis made the playoffs in 2015. No one would dare pass him over again.
