Let's get one last update on Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener, courtesy of Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press.
As we've written several times in this space, the Vikings need to be 100 percent certain Peterson is fully recovered from reconstructive knee surgery before allowing him to rejoin the team in live action.
Sure, it makes for a great read in Peterson's future autobiography, overcoming incredible odds to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the season opener. But what happens if Peterson pushes himself too hard Sunday and reinjures himself? What if a defender targets the knee? Is his body capable of handling that?
Peterson's had a brilliant career to this point. He may have brilliant football left in him still. But the Vikings need to take every precaution to protect Peterson, even if it's from himself.
