The New York Giants' decision to ignore the tight end position in this month's draft leaves the untested Adrien Robinson with a chance to compete for a starting role come September. Heady territory for a player with zero catches over his first two seasons in the NFL.
"It's just a huge opportunity. They laid a huge opportunity in front of me. I just have to go take it, make the most of it," Robinson said Tuesday, per The Star-Ledger. "I do feel that pressure. I know it's my third year. Like you said, 'it's now or never.' That is my mentality that I'm taking every day."
Foot and knee injuries derailed Robinson's most recent campaign, but with veteran Brandon Myers out the door, the 2012 fourth-round pick is a candidate for significant snaps in new coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense -- if he can stay healthy.
With just Kellen Davis, Larry Donnell, Daniel Fells and rookie Xavier Grimble behind Robinson, New York might not be done at the position -- especially after what McAdoo experienced in Green Bay, where Packers tight ends combined for 133 catches over the past two seasons.
Still, the Giants have high hopes for Robinson. At 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, he's an athletic freak whom coaches have called "the Jason Pierre-Paul of tight ends due to his combination of raw size and speed."
In April, we named Robinson as a player to watch on offense this season, but that came with a caveat: We fully expected Big Blue to find an immediate starter in the draft. After the Giants failed to do so, Robinson is back on our radar as a potential producer in Gotham.
