It's been a chippy training camp in Seattle. Michael Bennett seems to get kicked out of practice every other day, while Doug Baldwin's recent scrap with Richard Sherman was nasty enough to warrant stitches to the wide receiver's face.
That doesn't mean the Seahawks are falling apart, of course. This kind of stuff can be perfectly healthy in the dog days of training camp for a reigning conference superpower. But it doesn't make it any less fun to follow, especially when a self-described "agitator" like Baldwin is on hand to stoke the flames.
Baldwin's fracas with Sherman began after the Pro Bowl wideout got behind Sherman and safety Earl Thomas for a long touchdown on Monday. Moments later, Baldwin and Sherman -- teammates since their days together at Stanford -- were going at it.
"Obviously, tempers flare," Baldwin said Tuesday, via The News Tribune. "Sherm's really upset that we keep destroying him in practice. He's upset that the receivers are getting the best out of him and the defensive backs this year. So he takes offense to that."
That's a pretty solid burn to drop to a local beat guy! Baldwin had more fire for Bennett, who believes various offensive linemen have broken a practice "code" that could cause an injury that disallows Bennett to support his family. (Bennett is due to make $4.5 million this season.)
"I mean, yes, there is a 'code.' But Mike B. doesn't always necessarily operate by that code, either," Baldwin said.
"It's hard to take him serious when he talks about other guys taking food off his kids' plate -- when he is driving around here with 10 different cars, you know?"
This is fair.
