Alternative Rankings: Andy Reid still aims for No.1

When we started the "Fans for Matt Barkley" it seemed like a good idea. Kind of like how a return to USC to take a run at the Heisman Trophy and the national championship seemed like a good idea for Barkley.

But I still like Barkley. And he'll slide down the draft a little bit, but he's going to get selected at some point. I mean, you've seen the Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks, right?

So who will be the No. 1 pick? Well, our Bucky Brooks has gone into great detail right here. Make sure you check it out.

Undaunted, we will continue our look at those teams competing to be the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, no matter who the top dog is. And until we have a better name, we will continue to refer to this space as the Fans for Barkley.

Forgive me if you've heard me say this before on the Dave Dameshek Football Program or my various radio hits, but Al Davis might have been the one who held the Raiders together for all of those years. For all of those fans who said the Raiders would be much better when he moved on, where is that Raiders team? I contend the Raiders would have ended up with RG3 if Davis was still with us. You know he would have never done the Carson Palmer trade. And he would have traded anything to get a guy with RG3's speed. Raiders fans, you know this is true.

The Chargers are in a weird position where they are technically still in the hunt for a berth in the AFC playoffs, yet could seriously take a run for the worst team in the NFL. At least they like to play like it. The Chargers have a big test this week. The Baltimore Ravens historically play terrible after a win over the Steelers. But do the Chargers have enough left in the tank to pull out the loss at home to Baltimore? I'm not sure they can do it, and I would not be surprised if they blew it and won.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said it would be a "cop-out" to quit as coach of the team. And why should he consider a move out of town when he has his team closest to No. 1 as they have ever been during his reign? Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie still contends the Eagles have the most talent in the league. Which can only mean he does not practice against DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. But also shows Reid might be doing his best coaching to date to take this talented team all the way to No. 4 in our rankings.

The Panthers took an 11-point lead on Brandon LaFell's touchdown reception from Cam Newton with 4:34 left in the fourth quarter at home against the Bucs. And that's when the Panthers defense really rose to the occasion to not only allow the Bucs to score a touchdown. But also get the two-point conversion and field goal to send the game into overtime. This was a statement by the Panthers to say they aren't going to go away.

The Jags aren't going away, either. Each week they find new, amazing ways to lose. This week, they took the best team in the league to the brink. But then they showed why this team can make a case for being the No. 1 team in the draft next season. But I have to admit, I like this smirk from quarterback Chad Henne.

The Chiefs control their own destiny, thanks in no small part to the AFC West being so bad. If the Chiefs can lose out for the rest of the season, they will take the No. 1 spot. And when you watch the Chiefs play, it's hard to see a game this team will win. The most impressive thing, though? You remember who the Chiefs actually beat this season? The Saints. That's right, the NFC team that will sneak into the No. 6 spot.
