An embarrassing day for NFL fans

The hardest decision every Monday morning is deciding what story to write. There are countless options from gameday to choose from.

This is the first time I've ever felt that fans were a huge part of the story from the previous Sunday. We debated which fan base offense was the most egregious on the "Around The League Podcast." You can make your choice below.

San Francisco: The wave is obnoxious no matter when it's being used. It's 2013. We should be able to move past the wave by now. It's even worse when the wave is happening when a player is being taken off the field on a stretcher.

That tweet was from 49ers CEO Jed York, speaking about Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell. Early signs regarding Campbell's injury are positive, thankfully.

New England: The tweets started after the Patriots turned the ball over on downs with 2:46 left in the game, and the home team was down by only one point. The crowd was starting to empty out, even though the Patriots were likely to get the ball back with a chance to win.

The Patriots did get the ball back, down four points with 2:24 left. Tom Brady threw an interception.

We know how this one ended. I don't want to hear about the Red Sox game; there is no excuse for spending huge money willingly to miss a classic sports moment in order to get a jump on traffic.

(And while I'm on the subject of Red Sox fans, "Sweet Caroline" is an embarrassment to the entire region. This is true no matter the score, but especially when you are trailing 5-1. I can say this as a Red Sox fan.)

Tampa: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles said the game in Tampa "felt like a home game."

The miracle worker

"There was a couple of times the crowd was yelling and I thought it was 'Oh no, what happened?' I looked and it was the green and white jerseys, it was our fans," Foles said.

Houston: The home crowd cheeredMatt Schaub's injury. Linebacker Brian Cushing called it "barbaric." Andre Johnson said the fans showed "no class." Of course, this wasn't the whole crowd. But it was enough fans for everyone in the stadium to notice. This is a moment that is going to stick with the Houston crowd, whether they like it or not.

All in all, it was not a pretty day for NFL fans. I have faith we can bounce back next week. On the bright side, these stories are G-rated compared with what happens in other football stadiums.
