The Cardinals would listen if a team called about receiver Michael Floyd, they just haven't heard their phone ringing much -- or at all.
That's what Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported on Friday morning, a day after the Cardinals made a quiet first-round pick -- Florida offensive tackle D.J. Humphries -- and opted not to dip their toes into the water at running back with a trade up.
Perhaps Floyd would have been a part of a package if they truly valued either Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon. Maybe a lack of interest in the former No. 13 pick was what kept the Cardinals at home on Thursday night.
Either way, this quote from head coach Bruce Arians from March was a bit cryptic:
"I think some frustration went into his play at times. But he still needs to hit a consistency level," he said, via FOX Sports.
Arizona did end up exercising Floyd's option this week, though the money -- a bargain price for a premium wide receiver -- is easy to wriggle out of.
Floyd had a career year back in 2013 after logging 65 catches for 1,041 yards and five touchdowns. Along with the Cardinals' quarterback situation in 2014, Floyd saw a bit of a drop off.
In the end, this report could simply end up being a wake-up call for a player that Arizona thinks can be supremely talented. Despite the low number of player trades, veterans often fear getting lumped into the bustling marketplace on draft day.
Or, this could be a general manager doing what every general manager does. Would Steve Keim be any good at his job if he just hung up on everyone calling about Floyd?
