Rolando McClain has an unusual health condition for a person his age. The Oakland Raiders, meanwhile, just hope to have their 21-year-old rookie linebacker on the field Sunday for a key AFC West showdown.
Raiders coach Tom Cable told the Bay Area News Group on Friday that McClain has arthritis, which has left the first-round draft pick limping and favoring his left foot.
The condition is new to McClain, making his availability for Sunday's matchup with the San Diego Chargers unknown. He was held out of practice for a second consecutive day Friday and listed as questionable on the Raiders' injury report.
"He was better last night, but worse this morning, so it will be day to day, and we'll probably have to wait until Sunday morning," Cable said.
In other Raiders injury news, Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is progressing in his recovery from an ankle ailment. He played through discomfort last Sunday against the Miami Dolphins and was listed as questionable for the Chargers game.
"I am moving better this week and feeling better," Asomugha said. "They said each week it is going to feel better."
Safety Tyvon Branch (shoulder), tight end Zach Miller (foot, fibula), wide receiver Chaz Schilens (knee) and defensive tackle Richard Seymour (knee) were all limited in practice Friday and listed as questionable. Cornerback Chris Johnson (groin) didn't practice and is doubtful to play.
