Some of Josh Gordon's Cleveland Browns teammates reportedly want nothing to do with him following his latest off-field transgression, but he still has the support of his college head coach.
Gordon was arrested on suspicion of DWI last week and was already facing a lengthy suspension for a positive drug test. The man who saw Gordon's career blossom at Baylor -- head coach Art Briles -- said in an interview with NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez on Sirius XM NFL Radio that he still sees a bright future for the talented but troubled receiver.
"Everybody's different in the world. That's what makes it so unique. Everybody's got special talents and gifts and Josh certainly has a tremendous amount of physical talent and intellectual gifts. We all just hope and pray that he'll be able to get through everything and finally reach his full potential. The thing about Josh that's so unique is he's still young. He just turned 23 this summer. ... His future is ahead.
"He's going to be judged by everything that's happened, but he still has a great future ahead. That's the way he needs to approach this situation. Like I said, when you're in our family, you're always in, so we'll do whatever we can do to help him be successful through his life."
Briles is very familiar with Gordon's off-field issues. He indefinitely suspended Gordon from Baylor's football team in 2011 after Gordon failed a marijuana test, and Gordon left the program.
Gordon is battling some demons, but as he struggles to overcome them, it appears the Browns wide receiver can count on having some allies to turn to along the way.
