Bill Belichick said Friday morning that he would have a comment about the report that Aaron Dobson was inactive for two weeks after he "mouthed off" to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Several hours later, the New England Patriots' head coach released a statement on the team's official website complimenting Dobson's character:
"In my year and a half with Aaron Dobson, he has always been respectful to me and to the rest of the coaching staff. He has never once been argumentative or confrontational. The suggestion and reporting that his playing time was in any way the result of a 'loud disagreement' with a coach is completely false."
Belichick said Dobson was held out for "football" reasons.
The coach still has yet to fully explain (and probably never will) what sort of football reasons dictate keeping your one field-stretching receiver on the bench while dressing a surplus of running backs, as he did in Monday night's nightmare loss.
