Everything about the New York Giants' preseason suggests its offense is going to be painful to watch come Monday night in Detroit.
Despite what the numbers and films showed, new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo insists his first-team unit is improving.
"I feel that we've made progress," he said, per the New York Daily News. "We're making progress. We're starting to click in practice. We're getting some chemistry going. We just need to carry it over in the game."
In five preseason games Eli Manning looked terrible, going 20-of-41 passing for 188 yards and one touchdown. In one game Manning had zero completions; in another he had one completion for zero yards. (On the bright side: No interceptions!!!)
As if learning a new offense wasn't hard enough, the Giants' offensive line continues to be a work in progress thanks to injuries. Both starting guards are injured, and on Monday night New York is set to toss out a rookie to block Ndamukong Suh. Things could get ugly for Eli.
We've seen new offenses struggle in the preseason while keeping most of their machinations under wraps before bursting out once games count. The Giants don't appear to be that type of squad, but crazier things have happened in a season opener.
