Ben Roethlisberger passed Terry Bradshaw as the Pittsburgh Steelers' career passing leader Thursday night, and he needed fewer games to reach that mark.
Roethlisberger entered the Steelers' game against the Tennessee Titans needing 286 yards to tie Bradshaw's mark of 27,989 passing yards. Bradshaw did that in 168 games, and Thursday night was Roethlisberger's 119th career game.
Roethlisberger came into the game with 27,703 passing yards, and he passed Bradshaw with a 17-yard completion to Heath Miller with about 3:00 left in the third quarter. That gave Roethlisberger 291 passing yards in the game.
Roethlisberger's attempt to lead the Steelers fell short, however, when Shaun Suisham missed a 54-yard field goal that would have given the Steelers a three-point lead. Instead, Rob Bironas kicked a 40-yard field goal on the ensuing possession to seal a Titans upset.
Roethlisberger did not view his new record as an adequate consolation prize after the game.
"It doesn't matter to me," he said. "A loss is a loss."
