Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is trying to close the book on the Brock Osweiler era.
"I think (general manager) Rick Smith's statement said it all," O'Brien told the Houston Chronicle. "We wish Brock the best, but we're moving on."
The paper could not get a comment from O'Brien on a recent ProFootballTalk.com report that the coach and quarterback got into a verbal/borderline physical altercation in the Texans' locker room during a Week 17 matchup against the Titans. The site described it as the "last straw" in a decaying relationship that didn't turn out as planned.
O'Brien probably didn't even need to throw out the terse remark -- a trade of this type says it all. For those who might have forgotten, last week the Texans shipped Osweiler and a second-round pick to the Browns. Cleveland is basically eating the salary and looking to dump the 2012 second-round pick.
This will not be the last time O'Brien is asked about the trade and he might want to prepare something more substantial in the future. Meanwhile, it's almost a certainty Osweiler will eventually come out and give the tell-all interview describing his side of the story from Houston. NFL Network's Steve Wyche caught up to him in Tempe, Arizona last week, but the quarterback simply said he has no news about his future with the Browns.
The cold, business-like nature of this trade will have ramifications down the line on both sides, but for now, no one seems to be talking.
