The Buffalo Bills plan to install a new artificial field surface as part of a $2.8 million repairs and renovations project this offseason, *The Buffalo News* reported Friday.
The Bills have queried Erie County to pursue bids to replace the current AstroPlay surface, which was installed in 2003.
"We have played eight seasons on the current turf, which has reached its life expectancy, and the grass fibers are breaking down under normal use," said Scott Berchtold, the team's vice president of communications. "Only the carpet needs to be replaced, and this does not involve the asphalt sub-base or the draining system."
