ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Bills defensive end Dwan Edwards is out indefinitely after hurting his left hamstring early in a 19-16 overtime loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Without going into detail, coach Chan Gailey assessed Edwards' status by saying: "Not good. We'll lose him for a while."
Edwards was hurt on the Steelers' opening possession, when he fell awkwardly while being pushed from behind by center Maurkice Pouncey. Edwards lay on the field clutching his left leg before being helped up by trainers. He limped to the sideline before being loaded into a cart and driven to the Bills locker room.
The Bills were already depleted at the position after opening the day minus Spencer Johnson, who missed his second game with a hamstring injury.
The Steelers lost two regulars to injury.
Defensive end Nick Eason did not return after spraining his right knee late in the fourth quarter following a 2-yard run by Fred Jackson. Cornerback Bryant McFadden did not return after leaving the game early in the second half with a right hamstring injury.
Coach Mike Tomlin said both players will be evaluated before he could determine the severity of their injuries.
Tomlin said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger continued playing despite spraining his right ankle in the fourth quarter after being sacked for a 7-yard loss by Marcus Stroud. Roethlisberger shrugged off the injury by rushing 18 yards for a first down on the next play.
