Though this topic might appeal to Baltimore Ravens fans in the same way a "Saw" marathon would appeal to your grandmother, let's take a moment to check in on Billy Cundiff and Lee Evans, shall we?
Cundiff, of course, missed the 32-yard field goal attempt that would've sent last January's AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots into overtime. He was beat out by rookie Justin Tucker in camp -- a wise move by the Ravens, in retrospect.
Cundiff caught on with the Washington Redskins, but was cut in October. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 1 to compete with struggling incumbent David Akers, but was released on Friday.
Evans, meanwhile, set the stage for Cundiff's epic miss when his apparent game-winning touchdown reception was stripped away at the last moment by Patriots defensive back Sterling Moore. The Associated Press tracked Evans down this week, and we're sure Evans knew why they wanted to talk to him.
"Give him credit for the play he made," Evans said of Moore.
Evans was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars in training camp and spent the season out of football.
"My goal is to play in the NFL again," Evans said. "And if I am afforded that opportunity, I will be fully prepared and absolutely capable of competing at the highest level."
Cundiff and Evans wait for the opportunity to expand their legacy beyond the plays that made them infamous. Sport can be a cruel beast.
