In an expected move, the New York Jets announced Tuesday that they have been awarded wide receiver Braylon Edwards off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.
It's an awkward, if not functional reunion between a team and player who tweeted last week that the Jets' decision-makers were "idiots" for their handling of quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Now those same "idiots" have brought Edwards back into the fold, re-teaming Sanchez with the only effective deep threat he's ever had.
"It feels great to be going home," Edwards tweeted Tuesday. "Thanks to all of Jet Nation that continuously supported me and pushed for me. I'm back and it's go time."
Of course, there will be elements of the Jets' offense that will be familiar to the 29-year-old veteran. As we saw in the team's 17-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Jets seem to have adopted an ultra-conservative offensive philosophy similar to Sanchez's rookie year in 2009. That happens to be the same season the Jets acquired Edwards in a midseason trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Edwards did virtually nothing in stops with the Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers over the past two seasons, making it hard to say how much he has left. He fills a void for the Jets, but expecting Edwards to transform this offense is "idiot" talk.
