The New York Jets are starving for playmakers at wide receiver, so it's a good thing they have Braylon Edwards -- according to Braylon Edwards.
"I'm starting to get into camp shape, that groove, that vibe," Edwards told reporters Tuesday, per Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com. "Now is the chance to really go after it and really show these guys I still have it and that I can play at an elite level to help this team win games."
Color us skeptical.
Edwards hasn't impacted an offense with anything close to "elite" skills since 2007, when he hauled in 80 catches for 1,289 yards and 16 touchdowns as a member of the Cleveland Browns. His best season since was a 53-catch, 904-yard performance with Gang Green in 2010, but Edwards -- injury-plagued in recent years -- has just 33 catches since then.
Even with Santonio Holmes sidelined by a foot injury, Edwards finds himself in a numbers game. Stephen Hill and Jeremy Kerley are sure bets to make the Jets. Behind them, Clyde Gates has shown growth and rookie Ryan Spadola has impressed coaches, per Cimini.
Edwards still views himself as a rainmaker. We're not certain he'll even make the team.
