The never-ending carnival of drama continues in Washington.
Redskins rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland and wideout Andre Robertsexchanged punches during the individual portion of Wednesday's practice, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.
The fight erupted after Breeland broke up a pass intended for Roberts. Tumbling to the ground, Roberts appeared to accidentally knee Breeland in the groin, according to Keim.
The duo went on to exchange words at the line of scrimmage, prompting Roberts to fling his helmet to the ground and throw a punch. Breeland responded with a jab of his own before trying to tackle Roberts to the ground. Players jumped in to break up the fray, leading Roberts to also shove safety Ryan Clark.
Roberts and Breeland both declined comment, but coach Jay Gruden didn't.
"Well, you don't want fights at practice," Gruden told reporters. "But, you know, guys are a little frustrated, and things happen when football players are competing. I like the competitive nature of guys competing at practice, one-on-ones, we had some good competitive team drills today, but that was a rarity, that doesn't happen very often. And we addressed it."
More commonly the fodder of training camp, scuffles at practice are highly unusual in mid-December. Nothing, though, surprises us anymore with this year's Redskins, a troubled team bent on unnecessary theatrics on and off the field.
