Don't alert the cavalry. There's no need for a media stakeout on the front lawn as Brett Favre cruises by like Forrest Gump on his riding mower. Expect no white smoke to emanate from the retired quarterback's chimney.
Brett Favre isn't making an NFL comeback. But he could if he wanted to, insists agent Bus Cook.
"Today, he could play today," Cook said Monday night, via the Mobile Press-Register. "I saw him the other day. He's in the best shape I've ever seen him in, physically."
"His arms look like a blacksmith's arms. He rides a bike probably 30-50 miles a day. He runs four or five miles a day. He's coaching at the high school and they're undefeated. He loves it. His body fat is 7.5 percent and he weighs 225 pounds. He could play today, better than a lot of them out there today."
Did it slip Cook's mind to include the kittens Favre saved from a tree and the children rescued from a burning building?
It's not an outrageous proposition that the 43-year-old Favre still could play at the NFL level for a short stretch with the right mix of surrounding talent, similar to his magical penultimate season with the Minnesota Vikings.
At this stage of his career, Peyton Manning isn't carving up defenses with physical gifts such as a rocket arm and quick feet. He compensates by improving his already special pre-snap adjustments, blitz recognition and pinpoint accuracy while taking exactly what the defense gives him.
Might Favre succeed to a lesser degree with a similarly strong supporting cast? For better or worse, we're stuck with the likes of Andy Dalton, Christian Ponder and Jake Locker instead.
