Broncos place WR Stokley, LB Dumervil on injured reserve

The Denver Broncos announced a flurry of moves ahead of Saturday's deadline to cut rosters to 53 players.

Wide receiver Brandon Stokley, who appeared in one preseason game before injuring his groin, was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

It also was announced that linebacker Elvis Dumervil has been placed on IR. Dumervil, 26, tore a chest muscle during the first week of training camp. The news was expected, as Dumervil tweeted about the situation Friday night.

In a move earlier reported by NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi, the Broncos traded cornerback Alphonso Smith to the Detroit Lions for tight end Dan Gronkowski and an undisclosed draft pick.

The Broncos announced 10 cuts Saturday, most notably parting ways with defensive lineman Jarvis Green and linebacker Darrell Reid. Also released were linebacker Kevin Alexander, tight end Marquez Branson, wide receiver Britt Davis, tight end Riar Geer, safety Kyle McCarthy, offensive lineman Seth Olsen, defensive lineman Jeff Stehle and linebacker Worrell Williams. Defensive lineman Ben Garland was placed on the reserve/military list.
