The Denver Broncos signed kicker Steven Hauschka, who will fill in for injured starter Matt Prater in Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Prater originally was listed as questionable on the Broncos' injury report with a groin issue. However, *The Denver Post* reported Saturday that Prater, who's 16 of 18 on field-goal attempts this season, didn't travel with the team to Arizona and will not play.
The Broncos later confirmed that Prater is out.
"It's been bothering me for about two weeks," Prater told *The Post* about his groin injury. "It stinks (not playing in Arizona) because I hear it's going to be nice and warm down there."
Hauschka, a third-year pro, played 17 games with the Baltimore Ravens in his first two seasons after signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of N.C. State in 2008. He also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions, although he never kicked for those teams in a regular-season game.
Hauschka has made 10 of 15 field-goal attempts -- all with the Ravens -- in his NFL career. But some late-game misses cost him his job in Baltimore.
After graduating from Middlebury College, where he was a two-time New England Small College Athletic Conference selection as both a kicker and punter, Hauschka enrolled in graduate school at N.C. State and converted 16 of 18 field-goal attempts during his one season with the Wolfpack.
To make roster room for Hauschka, the Broncos waived offensive lineman Stanley Daniels, a rookie who started four of the seven games in which he played this season.
