Mike Pettine won't do Terrelle Pryor any favors.
Pryor is in prove-it mode as he tries to make the Cleveland Browns as a wide receiver, and according to Pettine the jury is still out on the former Ohio State product.
"He's not guaranteed a spot, but I also wouldn't write him off," Pettine told The Plain Dealer. "He's still in-between. That sense of urgency now is ramped up. It's a tighter window to see it. We are certainly not going to just hand him a spot based on potential. He's gotta show us, but what he's showed us so far has been encouraging."
Pryor has missed six practices and a game with a hamstring injury, but returned to action for Saturday's light practice.
"We'll take it slow," Pettine said. "He's done a good job staying engaged mentally, so that hasn't dropped off. He's sharp. He's standing behind asking the right questions. We will be very mindful of his work load, but at the same time we've still got to get him out there and see what he can do."
Despite Pettine's firm stamp of approval, it does appear that Pryor has a good chance to make the Browns' final roster. The lack of playmakers in Cleveland is to Pryor's advantage, especially with Josh Gordonsuspended for a year. Pryor is a novice to the receiver position, but his athletic ability and speed should give him the edge come cut time.
In the meantime, Pryor's status on the Browns roster will remain good water cooler talk in Cleveland.
