Browns' Rogers out for season with left leg injury

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers suffered a lower left leg injury in the closing minutes of Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, an injury that will sideline the three-time Pro Bowler for the rest of the season.

Browns coach Eric Mangini confirmed Rogers will be placed on injured reserve during his press conference on Monday. He didn't reveal the nature of the injury, but said it will require surgery.

Rogers was injured when teammate C.J. Mosley was blocked into him during a running play. Rogers was down on his back for several minutes after the pileup. He was taken off the field on a cart, with teammates coming over to offer him encouragement.

Rogers also was involved in the game's most notable play. His horse-collar tackle on Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer with no time left in the first half resulted in a penalty and an extra play. Cincinnati kicked a field goal for a 13-0 halftime lead.

Rogers is the team's third starting defensive player to go on IR this season. The Browns previously lost starting inside linebackers D'Qwell Jackson and Eric Barton to season-ending injuries.

"It's tough," said linebacker David Bowens, who has had to shift from outside to inside linebacker. "But the games still have to be played."

Browns safety Brodney Pool sustained a concussion in the loss. Defensive end Kenyon Coleman and linebacker Kamerion Wimbley also suffered knee injuries.
