Terms of the deal with the veteran linebacker weren't disclosed.

Stamer has appeared in 86 games during a seven-year career with the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans. He was released by the Titans on Sept. 5. He also has spent time with the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks.

The Browns have lost linebackers D'Qwell Jackson and Eric Barton to season-ending injuries. Cleveland's defense is ranked last in the NFL in yards allowed.

Barton was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with an unspecified injury. Browns coach Eric Mangini said Barton was discussing possible surgery with doctors.

David Bowens likely will start in Barton's spot.
