While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers consider quarterback Josh Freeman a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup against the Carolina Panthers, the team gave itself some insurance Saturday by promoting Rudy Carpenter from the practice squad.
Freeman was a limited participant in practice Friday for the third consecutive day and is officially listed as questionable with a right shoulder injury. He made some throws during during Friday's practice, according to the team.
Freeman was injured in this past Sunday's loss to the Tennessee Titans but didn't miss any time.
Backup quarterback Josh Johnson -- whom coach Raheem Morris said had a "spectacular" week of practice -- would start if Freeman is ruled out. Carpenter is the only other quarterback on the active roster. The team released linebacker Zac Diles to make room on the roster.
Morris was confident defensive tackle Brian Price (ankle) will play against the Panthers, while defensive end Michael Bennett (groin) was ruled out.
