Bucs interview OC Dirk Koetter for head coaching job

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers interviewed offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter for their head coaching position Tuesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports.

The Tampa Bay Times first reported the news.

Koetter is considered the favorite to win the Bucs coaching gig after Tampa fired Lovie Smith last week.

The offensive coordinator has been widely praised for his work with No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston and running a balanced offense attack with Doug Martin, the NFL's No. 2 rusher in 2015.

Hiring Koetter would benefit Winston greatly. Keeping the young quarterback in the same offense as opposed to learning a new scheme and terminology would allow Winston to work on refining the rough parts of his game this offseason.

Koetter interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers coaching position last weekend.

The Bucs have also interviewed Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott for their head coaching job.
