SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Cam Newton's unwavering confidence was on full display during Super Bowl 50 Opening Night festivities.
Asked about his team's chances in Sunday's game, Newton replied, "if they're at their best and we're at our best, we're going to win.
"We have different ways to attack the defense and I feel as if we're at our best and the other team is at their best, not just speaking of the Denver Broncos, just any other team," Newton said. "If we're at our best and another team is at their best, we will still win."
That might seem like bravado or hubris, but it certainly has a ring of truth to it.
Carolina is just the fourth team in history to start a season with 14 consecutive wins. They led the NFL in total points, point differential and takeaways.
Perhaps most impressively, they jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead against the reigning conference champions and turned the NFC Championship Game into a laugher against the NFL's second-best team by record.
The Panthers have been not just the class of the NFL, but also one of the 21st century's most imposing Super Bowl squads.
