Could recently cut cornerback Tharold Simon come back to haunt the Seattle Seahawks with a division rival?
The Arizona Cardinals claimed Simon off waivers on Wednesday, the team announced.
The Cardinals have been seeking veteran help at the position since the middle of training camp, when Mike Jenkins went down with an ACL injury and special teams ace Justin Bethel proved unready to return from a foot injury.
After struggling throughout the preseason, rookie Brandon Williams was exposed as a coverage liability opposite Patrick Peterson in the season-opening loss to the New England Patriots.
Simon is an intriguing flyer for Arizona. Although injuries and inconsistency have limited him to just five starts in three seasons, it was less than two months ago when All-Pro Richard Sherman reiterated a prediction that Simon will ultimately be viewed as the better player "by the time it's all said and done."
Considering the Cardinals' lack of appealing options at the position, Simon could be forced into action as soon as this week's game versus Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
