Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockettset Twitter on fire Friday by suggesting that tackle Branden Albert was going to join his team.
Whether Dockett was misinformed, well-informed or just having fun, it was a reminder that we shouldn't trust much of the information that gets floated out before Tuesday's free-agency opening.
(Unless, of course, that information comes from NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.)
Rapoport says that the Cardinals are targeting Oakland Raiders tackle Jared Veldheer. Albert is believed to be the Miami Dolphins' top target, according to sources informed of the team's thinking. The Arizona Republic first reported Arizona's interest in Veldheer.
Signing Veldheer would be a smart move to shore up Arizona's pass protection. He could be a superior player to Albert at a lesser price. Veldheer has received an offer from the Raiders, but Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie hasn't got a deal done yet.
If Veldheer left Oakland, the Raiders would have a brand-new hole to fill at left tackle. Rapoport reports that the Raidershave set their sights on Rodger Saffold, who will soon be a free agent. The Raiders see Saffold as a tackle, while other teams see Saffold as a guard.
Then again, perhaps the Raiders just want Veldheer to know they have other options.
